Baudet-Rob – Autonomous logistics assistance robot (...-2019)

Mobile robot for logistical assistance to enable more efficient, responsive, and safer mobility of intervention teams – maturation phase.

The autonomous movement of a robot in open environments is still at a non-operational maturity level. The main objective of the BAUDET-ROB project is to design a robot capable of autonomously following a group of people while carrying part of their equipment. One of the challenges of BAUDET-ROB is to ensure that the robot can adapt by itself to the highly diverse contexts and situations it is likely to encounter.

The three scientific challenges of BAUDET-ROB are:

  • Identification and tracking of a pedestrian ‘leader’. Selecting and identifying a ‘leader’ within a group of people;
  • Intelligent following management. The concept of a “virtual hitch” with the leader;
  • Full autonomy of robot movement. Obstacle avoidance, path following, leader behavior analysis, and decision-making.
